Free FAA Charts-Diagrams For Flight Sim Fans!!!

September 6th, 2006 by Joseph Bittman MCSD .Net

Okay, this is something I couldn’t resist posting now – it can’t wait until the morning. The Federal Aviation Adminstration has just posted charts, diagrams, instructions, etc for all the airport terminals in the US!! If you’re like me and am a huge fan of flight simulator, this is the perfect time to grab your local airport’s charts while they are free! πŸ™‚

This offer is only lasting around 1 month and ending on Sept. 28th! So don’t delay! Here’s a picture of an airport’s chart very close by to me: (great stuff here for Flight Sim Fans!)

By all means… re-post this to your blogs so people hear about this πŸ™‚

The main page is here, so click on the single item listed under Product…

(For those of you who want the opportunity to get it on a DVD must pay a pretty-penny… around $160)

Oh i cannot wait untill Flight Sim RTM’s however the system Req’s for it are massive (well the HDD space is) I suspect a new HDD will be in order if I want to play it.

  2. Zack Whittaker Says:

Yes Joseph, this is such a great post *snore* now I’ll be able to carry out my planned terrorist attacks on each and every airport packed with people because I know the building layouts – I MEAN MY GOD, come on! This sort of bulls*it would only ever happen in the US wouldn’t it? You yanks need a bloody good British arse kicking.

  3. Joseph Bittman Says:

Oh Zack. :-P… I bet you aren’t qualified to fly an airplane by instruments alone and passed all the checkrides in Flight Simulator, and read hundreds of pages of the pilot handbooks and lessons.

    Personally, I’m excited! πŸ˜›

  4. Joseph Says:

Zack, I have to agree with you on that.. Why is our government doing that? Its such a huge breech of security… The flight simulator should be just that.. simulated flight in a simulated airport and simulated airspace.. don’t base it on real airports when you know damn well that Iraqi, Taliban, al Queso, turbanheads, and the gas station attendants alike will download a bootleg copy of the program and plot and scheme. Shame on our country. Our country tis of greed, in George Bush we are to trust? Hopefully not for much longer.

  5. Joseph Bittman Says:

Well, I tend to agree with you both on that point… but after all, the “official” charts for Flight Sim are SimCharts 3.0 from Jeppeson… so this is more of a government thingy than a flight sim issue……………. I suppose though, that this kind of information is already available to people if they were to pay the $$.

Unless it was previously restricted to only pilots, then there isn’t much of a change.

This stuff has been available for a long time. The reason it’s only there for 4 weeks is because the information is constantly updated to include new information. Frequencies change, new obstructions are created, runways are closed for maintenance or built new, etc. They only keep the most current information available. At the end of September the updated version will be available. The $160 DVD is s full year’s subscription for all the updates. You can also buy a single period’s DVD for $12.50.

The trick with using this stuff for MSFS is knowing which outdated edition matches the database that was used for MSFS…
