Windows Server 2003 & Windows XP x64 Service Pack 2 Beta

June 28th, 2006 by Zack Whittaker

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that me and the other guys here at MSBLOG were testing Windows Server 2003 R2, but even our little baby is evolving again. A new service pack is going to become available by the end of this year, Service Pack 2 which is going to support:

  • Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (No Service Pack)
  • Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (No Service Pack)
  • Windows Server 2003, Web Editions (No Service Pack)
  • Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003, Web Editions, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, Datacenter, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition x64, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition x64, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003 R2, Datacenter Edition x64, Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2003, Compute Cluster Edition
  • Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition for Itanium-based Systems
  • Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition for Itanium-based Systems
  • Windows XP, Professional x64 Edition

Yeh that’s a long long list of operating systems, but basically anything Windows Server 2003 RTM and above, including Windows XP x64 (because they are essentially the same thing), then it’ll be supported. Currently only Beta 1 is out, but so far I’ve got some screenshots. Quite disappointing as so far all there is, is a whole load of hotfixes, security bulletin updates, as well as “increased reliability, robustness and security”… sure 😛
