MSBLOG Exclusive: Final UI for Windows Live Mail Desktop?

May 1st, 2006 by Zack Whittaker

I’ve been trying to work out whether this new screenshot seen of Windows Live Mail Desktop is in fact a later build than the one seen on Liveside, or one that was seen before. The post on Liveside appeared to be the final user interface, but as we can see here, running on the latest build of Vista released to technical testers has a similar user interface except slightly tweaked.

To be honest, it looks more similar to the user interface of Messenger, but we’ll get confirmation shortly whether this is a real screenshot or not.

Windows Live Mail Desktop looks pretty nice. I wish they would allow the Windows Live Mail testers access to trying it.

  2. Robert Says:

Why create this new e-mail client when you already have Outlook and Outlook Express? It doesn’t make sense. If I choose to use this, I would now need two applications open, Outlook for my calendar, contacts, and POP3 mail accounts, and this for Hotmail/Windows Live Mail.

    Robert,

That will tell you the history about this new email client. You’ll get it why they created this new email client then. 🙂

Oh BTW, this is indeed a newer build than the one in LIveSide.

  4. Andre Da Costa Says:

Sources on the WLMD Team say this is fake. I like it though.

  5. Zack Whittaker Says:

My sources on the WLMD team say that it was an internal concept design – whether it was made into a version or not I’m not sure, but nevertheless, they’re keeping up with the whole Windows Live “theme” at least.

  6. Andre Da Costa Says:

Zack, its obvious you are the one who created this concept, so don’t bother try blocking out anything, its most likely you since you participate in the Vista Public newsgroups.

  7. Jabez Gan [MVP] Says:

Andre, I can assure you that this build on our site is >64X build (644 or 640 is known to be the latest build if I’m not mistaken from LiveSide).

And no, Zack didn’t make this up.

  8. Windows Live : Windows Live Mail Desktop - Newer UI? Says:

[…] Windows Live Mail Desktop – Newer UI? Only a few days after the Mail Desktop team posted some screenshots of the new UI in Mail Desktop Beta, a seemingly even newer looking UI has appeared over at MSBlog. This version better matches the screenshots of Windows Live Messenger we have seen, and with the revamped task pane in the bottom left corner closely resembles Live Mail. Other changes include the removal of the users's diplay picture in the top right hand corner, and the search bar being lowered.
