Which popular websites run which web server?


I got bored… very very bored indeed and I found this great site (or rather a small section of a site) which tells you what web server that particular site is running… so here we go.
- www.microsoft.com – IIS 6 on Windows Server System (what a surprise!)
- www.bbc.co.uk – Apache on Linux
- http://wordpress.com – LiteSpeed on Linux
- www.google.com – GWS (Generic Workstation Server) on unknown operating system
- www.msblog.org – Apache on Linux
- www.cnn.com – Apache on Windows Server System
- www.msn.com – IIS 6 on Windows Server System
- www.blogger.com – Apache on unknown operating system
- www.ebay.com – IIS 5 on Windows 2000 Server (can you believe it?)
- www.amazon.com – Totally unknown 😮
- www.aol.com – AOL Server 4.0.9 beta (it’s own brand of server!)
- www.imdb.com – Apache on Linux
- www.apple.com – Apache “Darwin” on Mac XSan Server
- www.bankofamerica.com - Web Server on Sun Solaris Server
- www.adobe.com – Apache on unknown operating system
- www.w3.org – Apache on Linux
- www.sun.com – Sun Java System Web Server on Sun Solaris Server
- http://sourceforge.net – lightTPD Web Server on Linux
- www.nba.com – Apache on Windows Serve System
- www.mi5.gov.uk – Apache Advanced Extranet Server on Linux
- www.fbi.gov – Web Server on Sun Solaris Server
- www.ibm.com – IBM HTTP Web Server on Linux
- www.orlyowl.com – Apache on Linux
As you can see… I got bored… but look how IIS compares to Apache 😮 Quite shocking don’t you think?

Hey Paul – IIS aint all that bad! At least it’s not case sensitive like Apache is. Patrick, I thought GWS is Google Web Server as well – it would make sense after all!
