Get Windows Vista Beta 2 when it’s ready!

March 19th, 2006 by Zack Whittaker

Microsoft have released a website which enables you to sign up to either: Beta 2 of Windows Vista, Beta 2 of 2007 Microsoft Office System, and Beta 2 of Microsoft Exchange “12”. These will be out from April onwards, and exact dates are not confirmed.

Technically you can only get these if you are from the United States, Canada, French Canada and Spanish (Latin America) regions. However, as this is all done via e-mail and the TechNet Flash newsletter in your inbox, you should be able to participate none the less.

Please note: you can subscribe now for the beta when it is ready, but it is not expected out until mid-April. Also note, it will be called “Windows Vista Beta 2” and not “Windows Vista April CTP”.

Update: Windows Live Messenger beta is also now public
They have dropped the Invite-only status system as well, allowing anyone to sign in apparently..  This has been confirmed by Salem and Chris from LiveSide.

Yey!, I can finally sign up to Exchange Server!!! Wohooo!!

Note.  Microsoft has silently enabled access to the latest Windows Live Messenger Beta for all passports. This means that from now on you won’t need an invitation in order to be able to log in. We expect the MSN pages to soon reflect this news and market the WLM Beta to all of their visitors worldwide, Source….

Note 2. Who messed up the site with not closing the bracket?

  5. Salem Says:

Thanks for the info Zack, i signed-up.

Note: Appears WLM Beta is indeed public, so you can use it without an invite.

  6. cetsk Says:

Why not make it a public beta? The people who want to try it are going to pirate it if they aren’t included in the beta anyway. Microsoft might as well provide a torrent for everybody. Make it a 30 day trial or something that you can’t disable activation?

    I don’t know, I think it’s a good idea.

  7. Zack Whittaker Says:

They are 😛 Just give it time… about half way through April and you can have an instant public download 😉

i already have windows vista beta version. its alright, there are many things that need to be worked out. it still isnt out because they made a mistake in coding and had to do the whole thing over again. another thing is that microsoft is going to realease a new version of Internet Explore. there are many things that still need to be done. most of you would rather stick with Windows XP or whatever OS you have.

I would like to try out Vista Beta 2 but because I’m in Australia, how am I meant to get it? Download it via MSDN? Or, get it sent by post? I only just upgraded to a new Intel Celeron 3.0GHz 512MB RAM, 80GB drive and WXPSP2 and I don’t know how to get it, and I want it. Almost sounds like they should give it away, like they did with the SP2 disc, or would more than a million DVD ROMs cost a lot?

  31. Patrick S Says:

LOL its notr a service pack..its a completely whole new Opperating system. To get it you needf to either be on the Beta. Or have an MSDN account (these cost money). I spose you could get it off the net somewhere too…but i dont condone it.
