How to install IIS 7 on Windows Vista 5308

March 11th, 2006 by Patrick Elliott

(Source: Windows Vista Build 5308 release notes)

This information applies to this beta version of Windows Vista.
Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 is not installed by default.

To install IIS 7.0
Open a command prompt that has administrative credentials.

Note
On 64-bit operating systems, you must use the 64-bit command prompt (%windir%\system32\cmd.exe).

Based on the specific edition of Windows Vista you are using, copy the appropriate block of text from the table below and paste it in the command prompt as a single line.

Note
On Home Basic and Starter editions of Windows Vista, this installation provides the Web Activation Infrastructure (a basic HTTP processing infrastructure), but does not install an HTTP Web server.

Press ENTER. The installation may take several minutes. Installation is complete when the command prompt returns.

Yes IIS 7 is included with Longhorn Server (5308) – To what extent I don’t know, I should have a test box up shortly for some of you guys to connect into

  3. Patrick Elliott [MVP] Says:

Hi, thanks for the command prompt commands for iis installation. I added screenshots for iis 7 installations at http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-install-iis7-on-windows-vista-beta2.aspx for build 5384. Do you think these commands will also work on Beta2?
