Windows Live Messenger 566 released

March 1st, 2006 by Zack Whittaker

Oaky doaky, got word from the WLM teams and build 566 has been released to testers. The word from Microsoft is this:

“Build 562 was intended for Managed beta testers only but since many people outside of the Managed beta may have installed a leaked build they all are affected by this without the benefit of this information. Feel free to post these instructions on your blogs or in public newsgroups.  Any moment now, the public download link (http://g.msn.com/1csbeta/Mess80_EN) will be pointing to build 566.”

At the moment, you can download the new build without any problem, however you must be authorised with the MSN Passport servers to be allowed to sign into the beta product. This can only be done if your on the beta or have a Windows Live Messenger invitation. So if you don’t have one… make friends with someone who does 😉

Edit Patrick S-OR You can upgrade from the leaked build to the recent build using the following Instructions,

1. Run auto-update again, keep the installer open.
2. Go to “Start” > “Run” > Type “%TEMP%” in the box > “OK“.
3. Copy – Look for the WLM .566 installer .exe (filename is random, look for filesize around 13 or 14MB).
4. Copy the installer to your desktop to make sure it won’t get deleted.
5. Close the 566 installer.
6. Uninstall build 562 from your computer
7. Run the 566 installer from your desktop.
