Paul Thurrott opens his ugly mouth about R2

October 4th, 2005 by Zack Whittaker

Any Microsoft beta tester or MVP or other Microsoft “junkie” will usually tell you that whenever Paul Thurrott (creator of WinSupersite) says something you can usually take it with a pinch of salt because the amount of times he has said “Oh, Windows Longhorn will always be Windows Longhorn” or “My contact at Microsoft says…” or “Windows Vista as it’s now known will be out of beta on June 30th”. Come on Paul, get something right for once and stop talking out of your arse.

I think he finally has. He posted his Part 1 review on his website talking about how sloppy Microsoft has been with releasing the operating systems. Can I say that they’ve been very punctual for releasing the OS’s and the only reason he found the huge gap in the timings is because he got the timings wrong! Also, he doesn’t really talk about the product itself anyway, he just gabbles on about how there will be many “R2” products as it only really means “release 2” in the end.

But anyway, hopefully he’ll talk about the full power of Windows Server 2003 “R2” by mentioning Storage for SANs, Active Directory Federation Services, Active Directory Application Mode, Storage Resource Manager, and other beauties to play with such as SharePoint Server 2.0… Check out his lame excuse for a review of Windows Server 2003 “R2”here.

Oh and by the way, I wish to God that one day he’ll make half decent graphics that relate to the real thing…

    Ha ha ha,
It looks like he made that logo himself in paint!

  2. Patrick E Says:

Yes, the logo is horrible, and from what it sounds like, Paul Thurrott hasn’t done much other than install the product. Perhaps after he has time to try out some of the components, he’ll write a better article about it. But Thurrott will always be Thurrott.

Give the guy credit, its only Part I: Introduction. Given how much stuff he probably gets coming across his desk every day, he can’t write awesome reviews for every single product.

Sure he gets some stuff wrong, but he gets much more right than anybody else out there.

  4. Patrick S Says:

Yea perhaps we should…I have refered to something he has written before. I dont read what he writes enough to give my Opinion

I guess it’s just the fact I’m so personally involved with R2, it seemed to me like it was a bit preliminary to release the article when it was apparant there wasn’t much review done of the product.

Same here, in my eyes though he’s always talked out of his bottom, and will continue to do so just to get people’s hopes up!
