July 4th, 2009 by Patrick S

A long time ago we had a forum – For a while it was a little hive of activity but it was inevitably was closed down as some of us parted ways leaving the forum to get spammed.

Today I am proud to announce our forum is back online as a result of a partnership with winxperts.net.

We are not closing our doors we will still post great news, we have just identified the mutual sharing of forums to be the best for both parties drawing in more users for both sites as well as the ability for users to communicate with a greater member audience.

So what now:

If you already had a MSBLOG forum login, chances are you can login to the new forum (if you remember you password) :P.
IF YOU DONT HAVE A FORUM ACCOUNT, what are you waiting for come join and get amongst the discussion.

Happy Birthday MSBLOG

July 1st, 2008 by Patrick S

Hi Reader,

Today is in-fact MSBLOG’s third birthday-Where have the years gone?

It seems that I write this post every year on this very date and reminisce of past times.
The sad fact of the matter is that everyone has moved on now it seems.
Here’s what some of the best people I have known are up to these days:

  • -Zack is now studying at Kent University (studying Computer Science at the very home of Bluejay-a Java compiler used by many first year CS students around the world). Zack is also blogging for ZDNET (http://blogs.zdnet.com/igeneration/) where he keeps tabs on the technology world from a student’s point of view.
  • -Andre N has just landed an internship with Google (Congrats)-He starts on the 8th as a developer
  • -Jabez is in his final year at College
  • -I am in my 2nd to last year of college-I am a Microsoft Student Partner for MSDNAA and I work for IBM.
  • -Joseph is studying at College
  • -Patrick E is still working for Microsoft in a permanent position and frequently travels the world
  • -Dennis has started his own company in Germany as a consultant
  • -As for the others, sorry, I don’t particularly know what you do full time but they’re excelling in their chosen IT field.

Although the blog is not updated all that often, we will defiantly put on the odd post here and there.

Happy Birthday MSBLOG,  Thanks for reading 🙂

Microsoft is entering the porn business

April 1st, 2007 by Jabez Gan [MVP]

Every year, porn industry earns billions of dollars, and this industry isn’t slowing down any moment yet. Porn is still a growing industry especially with the introduction of internet.

When there’s a market, there’s Microsoft. There was Macintosh, before Windows. There was Netscape, before Internet Explorer comes into the picture. There was Google, then Windows Live.

According to our insider, Microsoft is going to have a press release this week about entering the porn business. It seems like Microsoft is going to brand this new porn business division under Windows Live brand.

Believe it or not, we’ll have more coming this week.

Stay tuned!

Due to some issue with the server lately, we’ll be moving server again.

Issue: Problem with Centros 4.x and Kernel. Causing random disk problem, making I/O takes forever. Thus server is unusable at times.

Resolution: New server without Centros 4.x! 🙂

The new theme

January 7th, 2007 by Zack Whittaker

We have a new theme – I finally decided to change the look of the blog simply because it really needed doing. The old theme will hopefully never return, and this theme will live out it’s life for as long as we can bare it.

If you write on MSBLOG and this is the first time you’ve seen this – I emailed everyone last night about it, so it’s you’re own fault if you’re suffering a heart attack for seeing such a drastic change 🙂

Ta!

VistaBase v4 ready

January 3rd, 2007 by Zack Whittaker

It’s taken me many hours to get this finally going – but a knowledge base is now complete of which you can put your input in on any article – leave a comment, leave a reply, ask questions then get answers – it’s a real knowledge base where your input gets easily submitted back to me for improvements.

  • Leave a reply and get a response
  • Comment on each individual post
  • Comment on each demonstration
  • Fully Firefox compatible
  • Mobile site coming soon

It’s what you all asked me to do – so I did it. To make it easy for existing users, it still looks pretty much exactly the same – but waiting times for articles to load are slashed to a fraction of the time as before. Big thanks to Dean and Oliver who helped with the backend stuff behind it (as I’m not so good at that!). The old URL still works, but it’ll redirect to here where the real magic is – so check it out!

Report Abuse Desktop Client
(released 27th December 2006 – version 2.5.63.6)
Download now Please uninstall/delete and disregard any previous build

The Report Abuse Desktop Client has had a few updates and tweaks – no extra functionality has been added, rather some things changed (the odd spelling mistake here and there). Don’t forget, you can auto-update – click on the Reporting tools tab, then Check now to update.

The bigger and better Report Abuse Desktop Client

December 20th, 2006 by Zack Whittaker

Report Abuse Desktop Client

(released 21st December 2006 – version 2.0.44.0)
Download now –  Please uninstall/delete and disregard any previous build
(Alternative link if above doesn’t work – some router’s/firewall’s don’t like subdomains)
Compatible with: Windows 2000 Professional, All versions of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista (32-bit only)

The Report Abuse Desktop Client is an application written by myself and provided by MSBLOG enabling younger users of the Internet to report online abuse or suspicious activity of online predators. It’s free to mirror and distribute, and recommended for those who have a family computer or for families with children who use the Internet. It has an auto-update feature in it as well so it’ll still update easily.

Please spread the word of this software. It does not benefit MSBLOG in any way at all, talking as a collective, we all want children to be safe online and this is a one-of-a-kind solution to help it happen. The image below can be put in link exchanges, affiliates lists, anything like that. Please spread the word :)

Site downtime – Explaination

December 15th, 2006 by Jabez Gan [MVP]

Dear Faithful readers,

There was a long downtime on this site yesterday due to a fault with the SATA drive we are hosted on. This caused the filesystem to become read-only.

We had to restore the entire hard disk to another and this took many hours to complete.

We really apologize on the huge downtime this has caused.

Server downtime

December 14th, 2006 by Zack Whittaker

Blame Jabez… in one of his drunken states, he monged out into the server room, chatted up the server, threw up, drank some more then collapsed thus causing the power cable to be removed from said wall socket (or the nearest equivilent of the distant truth…)

Server’s now running fine – we still don’t know how the server had lipstick all over it, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough. Sorry for the downtime – we’re back and fully functional now 🙂
