These mainly had their origin in an article Paul Thurrott wrote as a web exclusive for the Windows IT Pro WinInfo website:Exclusive: Here Comes Windows Vista RC2 (October 02, 2006)Microsoft will ship the final prerelease version of Windows Vista on Friday and, unexpectedly, will name the new version Release Candidate 2 (RC2). (Microsoft had stated earlier that it wouldn't ship an RC2 milestone release of Vista.) But don't let the name fool you. RC2 is really just a standard interim build of Vista, but unlike RC1, it won't be distributed to millions of users.The RC2 build is 5743, and Microsoft is currently testing it internally. As with the previous interim build, 5728, RC2 will go to beta testers, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) and TechNet subscribers, and a random, limited number of Consumer Preview Program (CPP) members.Now is the time for Paul Thurrot to prove his worth, because a lot of people took his information as being reliable. He has a nice smile an puppy dog eyes, doesn't he? No, it's not and never was my intention to hurt the feelings of Carlos and Minca or to call Paul Thurrot a dog. I love dogs and no animals were harmed writing this post.In my opinion there's only three ways to be sure information on Microsoft Windows Vista builds and designations is correct:It is covered on Microsoft Presspass; Jim Allchin gets quoted on it; (on the Vista Team Blog preferably) Jim Allchin sends a message to the Connect community. Update: Build 5744 not build 5743Nick White wrote on the Microsoft Windows Vista Team Blog that Microsoft Windows Vista Release Candidate 2 (RC2) is now available to the Technical Beta Testers, TAP Testers, and MSDN/TechNet subscribers. We wanted you to be the first to get these bits; next week they’ll be available to a broader set of customers via MSDN and TechNet.All your great feedback has helped us focus on nothing but bug fixes over the past month since RC 1 — each and every day.
